My paintings allude to the perceptual mysteries, spiritual quirkiness, and playful patterns of atmosphere and light – mechanical rhythms found among the displaced surfaces, reflections, and colors of nature. I mix glass beads and metal oxides in thin layers with the pigment to create a fugitive element to light, both reflecting and absorbing it. As such, the paintings share qualities of both object and image; depth and flatness. My hope is to evoke the fleeting sensations of a time or a place, or perhaps the absence of time and place.
